PoP runs MVT photo

Popular D.C. blog Prince of Petworth ran this image in their daily Photos From PoPville feature today.

The photo was taken by a Triangle resident (flickr username sciascia) who comments here on this blog as washingtonydc. Does anyone else have a favorite MVT photo to share?

MVT Inauguration photos

I am a realist and conceded I wouldn't be able to compete with other blog-o-sphere Inauguration coverage of the big day. What I have done is capture the day in the Mount Vernon Triangle (and surrounding area) in pictures. Road closures and charter bus parking aren't as interesting, but hey, my 'hood is my niche! =)

All in all the craziness didn't spread much into the Triangle. Charter Bus parking didn't spread beyond a few street segments: 1000 block of New Jersey Ave NW , 200 block of H Street NW and the K Street overpass over I-395. While one impromptu parking lot at 4th and L was packed the big lots on K Street remained mostly empty. Vehicle Access was limited greatly below Mass and in certain segments of New York Ave. The Convention Center area had extensive use of temporary guard rails and used several double decker buses to block off access points. A row of memorabilia tents were set up on the 600 block of Mass Ave at the parking lot owned by Gould. The photos I took down by D Street in Penn Quarter is where the large frustrated crowds who wanted to be on the parade route were centered.

The Triangle in Pictures: Say Goodbye to History

I took this photo just a couple of days ago when I made my periodic trip to the Triangle to check the progress of the Dumont (The building I'll hopefully be moving into sometime this year). I was struck by the beauty of these derelict structures and really moved by the fact that I could see, in their present state, the many years of experience these buildings had. I could almost see the families that at one point lived in there. The kids playing out on the stoop, domestic noises pouring out the open windows. I became incredibly sad when I realized that soon, they'll be nothing more than meaningless facades. Completely sanitized and devoid of any life whatsoever, much like the fate of many of Penn Quarter's historical structures.

I took a few snapshots from the unfinished rooftop at the Madrigal Lofts today. I've included two below, and you can see a few more [here].

Mount Vernon Triangle Maps From The Past - Part 2

Same concept as the previous post. This time from looking at the City Vista Plot. Vantage point is West to East.

Mount Vernon Triangle Maps From The Past!

Yesterday Penn Quarter Living had an interesting post comparing Satellite Images from years in the past to the most current images. I thought it would be interesting to do the same for Mount Vernon Triangle.

Using the Bird's eye view feature of Microsoft's Local Live I pulled up some images of Mount Vernon Triangle. These focus on the area around Madrigal Lofts, the Sonata and the Dumont.
