Yesterday we featured
1999 satellite images of sites of current MVT new construction buildings. Overwhelmingly the sites were occupied by massive surface parking lots. That was not always the case.

Above is a low-res 1949
satellite aerial image of the Triangle that pre-dated the construction of I-395. While the black and white image very grainy you can see the land use included tightly packed buildings with absolutely no large parking lots.

The 1949 photo not only predates the construction of 395, it also predates satellites by a good seven years. Probably an aerial photograph, instead.

Very cool. You know how you can tell it's 1949 in this photo? Look at the G-H & 4-5 NW block. That's the GAO building under construction!
